What is XMP? (Extensible Metadata Platform)
XMP is an XML-based metadata format, created by Adobe, that travels alongside or inside a file and often records editing history and rights information. It frequently coexists with EXIF. ChronoVerify reads XMP when present and cross-checks it against EXIF for contradictions, which can surface a metadata anomaly worth a human look.
Why it matters
XMP is one of the signals ChronoVerify reads when you check a photo's capture time and provenance. No single signal is proof on its own: the verdict combines provenance, metadata, and pixel forensics, and is investigative triage for human review, not a courtroom guarantee.
Run a photo through it and see XMP in the result.
