What is Capture time? (DateTimeOriginal)
Capture time is when a photo was taken, as recorded by the camera (the EXIF DateTimeOriginal field), distinct from when the file was last modified. It lives in the EXIF sub-IFD, not the top-level tags, which is why many tools miss it. ChronoVerify reads capture time, notes its source, and flags values that are internally inconsistent (for example a capture time in the future).
Why it matters
Capture time is one of the signals ChronoVerify reads when you check a photo's capture time and provenance. No single signal is proof on its own: the verdict combines provenance, metadata, and pixel forensics, and is investigative triage for human review, not a courtroom guarantee.
Run a photo through it and see Capture time in the result.
